About this board game
Atlanteon is a two-player board game played in about 30 minutes, first released in 1992. In this edition, mighty undersea warriors battle for control of the capital of the Sunken Kingdoms.
One player commands the vicious Marauders, who seek to capture the city. The other leads the heroic Guardians, fighting to defend their home. The conflict unfolds across a game board divided into 25 city districts.
Players take turns placing one of their counters on the board. Each counter carries a number, and that number determines how much influence it projects onto the neighboring spaces in the same row and column, as well as onto the space occupied by the counter itself.
Every placement can change control of the surrounding districts, making the arrangement of counters central to the struggle. Players must build influence across the board while pursuing one of the game’s decisive victory conditions.
- Control all three buildings
- Control eleven city districts
Either achievement is enough to win the game. With its compact board, alternating placements, and expanding influence system, Atlanteon presents a focused contest between two opposing forces.
The game was originally published as Revolution, set in French Revolution-era Paris, where Royalists and Jacobins fought for superiority across the same 25-district structure. The later Atlanteon reprint transforms that contest into an underwater battle between Marauders and Guardians while retaining the core control-focused gameplay.
