About this board game
Spectral Rails is a 3–4 player board game that takes about 60 minutes, casting players as ghost-train engineers guiding lost souls through the American Southwest.
Prospectors and frontier settlers once built remote towns around rich mines, but when the resources ran out, only ghost towns remained. The souls of those who died far from home now wander these abandoned places, waiting for spectral trains to carry them toward final peace.
Each player uses a standard set of Ether cards numbered 1–4 to move across the region. Find lost souls in ghost towns, then deliver them to their home towns. As your train travels, the Ether you spend leaves a track behind it, creating routes that can shape every player’s journey.
- Move using your Ether cards.
- Pick up souls and deliver them to their home towns.
- Allow other players to travel along your Ether track for free.
- Manage tracks that disperse as more Ether is laid.
- Plan around a discard pile that returns only half of your Ether cards each turn.
There is an important catch: you may never travel along your own Ether. You can pull up your track to clear a path for yourself—or leave another engineer in the lurch. Timing is crucial, as the routes other players leave behind may offer valuable passage while also creating opportunities to block easy movement.
In Spectral Rails, careful planning meets tactical route management. Success depends on managing your limited Ether, judging when to reclaim your track, and delivering wandering souls home before your opponents can make the best use of the spectral railway.
