About this board game
Battue: Storm of the Horse Lords is a conflict-based strategy board game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Set in the brutal dark-fantasy world of Terris, it challenges players to lead Horse Lord hordes into Tarsos, the City of Brass Pillars.
Players move Mongolian-styled tribes and their units through the city, competing to control key positions and eliminate opposing forces. Each player can create multiple forces called Hordes, giving the struggle for Tarsos a shifting military focus as armies enter new districts.
The city begins with its districts face down, keeping their identities unknown. When a Horde enters a new section, that district is revealed. If its forces are defeated, it may provide benefits such as additional troops or victory points of varying value.
- Conflict-based gameplay in the same vein as Risk
- Modular board for a different tactical layout in each game
- Face-down city districts that are revealed as Hordes advance
- Multiple Hordes for each player to command
- Victory points and troop benefits found in defeated districts
The goal is to control the most valuable parts of Tarsos before the endgame begins. That endgame is triggered when key parts of the city are controlled by the players, so every movement and battle can influence the race for dominance.
With its modular board and changing district discoveries, Battue: Storm of the Horse Lords offers a tactically different contest from one play to the next. Released in 2007, it also forms part of the World of Terris setting envisioned by authors Robin Laws and Scott Hungerford.
