About this board game

Meridian is a competitive board game for 2–4 players, with play lasting about 30 minutes. First released in 2001, it places players in the role of powerful European commercial companies seeking influence across the rich cities of the Southern Archipelago.

After years of negotiations, Queen Wu Wei has agreed to allow these companies to establish garrisoned trading posts. Her approval comes with a condition: every company must observe the curious rules she has devised. Players must therefore pursue desirable locations while adapting to the Queen’s demands.

Garrisons are represented by towers of various heights, giving the companies a visible presence in the archipelago’s cities. The central objective is to take over islands by establishing more garrisons in their cities than your opponents. Careful placement and competition for valuable locations are at the heart of the contest.

  • For 2–4 players
  • Approximately 30 minutes of play
  • Garrison towers of various heights
  • Competition to take over islands through greater garrison presence
  • Forced displacement can upset established positions

Holding a promising city is never entirely secure. During play, garrisons may be forcibly displaced, disrupting plans and changing the balance between competing companies. A strong position can therefore become vulnerable as the contest develops.

With its blend of territorial competition, unusual royal conditions, and shifting garrisons, Meridian presents a focused struggle for control of the Southern Archipelago. Build your presence, challenge rival companies, and attempt to secure the islands before your opponents do.
