France 1944: The Allied Crusade in Europe – Designer Signature Edition is a one- to two-player historical wargame covering the Allied drive from Normandy toward Germany, with games lasting approximately two to seven hours.

The campaign begins after the June D-Day invasions, with Allied forces established in France but still slowed by Normandy’s rough terrain. As British, Canadian, French, Polish, and American forces build up, players confront the struggle to break out, liberate France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, and advance toward the German frontier.

France 1944 pioneered designer Mark Herman’s headquarters activation and reaction system. Players use supply to activate headquarters, which then direct units in operations. After an activation, the opposing player may spend limited reaction points to reinforce a threatened area, plug a gap, or launch an army-level counterattack.

This system creates an evolving contest in which choices become more limited as each monthly turn progresses. The game uses monthly turns, a map scale of 20 miles (32 kilometers) per hex, and units representing army-level headquarters, infantry corps, and armored divisions.
