About this board game

Tortuga is a two-player board game that takes about 10 minutes to play, featuring eight turtles per player on a hexagonal grid. Each player aims to send one of their turtles to the opponent’s side of the board.

The rules center on simple movement and changing turtle states. A turtle can move one step forwards, or it can jump over another turtle. These jumps have different effects depending on which turtle is crossed.

• Jumping over an opponent’s turtle neutralizes it.
• Jumping over a neutralized turtle activates it again.
• An activated turtle can return to play on either side.

Because every move can affect the status of another turtle, the hexagonal board becomes a compact space for opposing pieces to advance and leap. The winning condition remains clear: be the first player to get one of your turtles onto the other player’s side.

With its two-player format and short playing time, Tortuga offers a focused head-to-head experience built around forward movement, jumping, and neutralization. The changing status of the turtles gives the game its defining mechanism while keeping the objective easy to understand.
