The Deadly Woods: The Battle of the Bulge

The Deadly Woods: The Battle of the Bulge is a two-player World War II wargame with an advertised play time of 720 minutes, covering the German Ardennes offensive and the Allied counterattack from December 16, 1944, to January 16, 1945.

Designed by Ted S. Raicer, the game uses a modified chit-pull system to recreate the uncertainty and friction of the campaign. Each side receives action chits that determine when and how forces can move, fight, receive reinforcements, or benefit from special capabilities. Players may draw up to two consecutive chits before the opposing player must take the next action.

The full campaign lasts thirteen turns, with a shorter six-turn scenario focusing on the German offensive. Despite the compact turn structure, multiple Action Rounds mean that major developments can unfold quickly. German logistics chits introduce historical supply effects, while special chits represent capabilities such as the German 5th Panzer and Allied Patton formations.
