About this board game

Paleovet is a dinosaur hospital game for 1-4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. As paleo-veterinarians, players draft dinosaur cards, manage treatment dice, and care for sick and injured prehistoric patients.

Each turn begins by removing a sleep token from every dinosaur in your hospital, making forced rest an important part of patient care. If you have an empty bed among the four in your hospital, draft a dinosaur from the five cards in the central river, then roll your dice.

You begin with three dice showing three treatments, a tranquilizer dart, and a wild icon. Spend treatment symbols to heal dinosaurs, each of which requires between one and five treatments as shown on its card. Matching icons can also provide useful upgrades:

  • Spend two matching icons to gain a single-use wild token.
  • Spend two matching icons to acquire an upgrade card with a permanent beneficial effect.
  • Spend three matching icons to acquire additional dice.

Tranquilizers and available beds let you bring more dinosaurs into the hospital. But unfinished treatment is risky: if a dinosaur has no sleep tokens remaining, it wakes up and leaves. A departing carnivore takes another dinosaur with it, creating a dangerous setback for your veterinary operation.

Fully cured dinosaurs leave the hospital for your victory pile and score the points shown on their cards. When one of the three card stacks is empty, the round is completed and players compare the points earned from their veterinary efforts. With dice management, card drafting, upgrades, and tense patient care, Paleovet turns dinosaur treatment into a race against time.
