About this board game

Panzer Grenadier: Desert Rats is a board game for 1–2 players with an approximately 150-minute playing time, covering battles in North Africa from November 1941 through May 1942.

As the seventh complete game in the Panzer Grenadier series, Desert Rats continues where Afrika Korps left off. Its scenarios focus primarily on the North African campaign, while bonus scenarios extend the setting to East Africa and Somalia.

The game features two large 22″ × 34″ maps and 825 counters representing the forces involved. Players can command units from several nationalities, creating a broad range of historical matchups across the desert battlefields.

  • British, German, Indian, Italian, Italian Colonial, and New Zealand troops
  • Two 22″ × 34″ maps
  • 825 counters
  • Scenarios set in North Africa, East Africa, and Somalia

Initiative determination and alternating action segments keep both players involved throughout the game. Rather than waiting for one player to complete an entire turn, the action moves back and forth between opponents, maintaining a steady flow.

Although designed for two players, Panzer Grenadier: Desert Rats can also be played very well solitaire. Its combination of historical scenarios, multiple nationalities, substantial physical components, and alternating play makes it a substantial entry in the Panzer Grenadier line.

Desert Rats is expanded by Panzer Grenadier: Sinister Forces.
