About this board game
Karnag is a strategic board game for 2–5 players, with games lasting around 120 minutes, in which teams of three druids defend the human world from creatures emerging from the underwater city of Ker-Ys.
Each round begins as creatures advance automatically along the druids’ path surrounding the central glade. New creatures may arrive, while six Action tiles are arranged to show the available major and minor actions. Players select actions in reverse score order, placing their markers on the available spaces.
Druids can move around the glade, place and move magical stones, capture creatures with their magical beams, influence a creature’s movement, and acquire Power cards. They can also advance on knowledge tracks or prepare magical beverages to increase knowledge and recover energy. Capturing creatures and placing stones require careful use of energy, while obstacles can prevent magical beams from crossing the glade.
- Automatic creature movement: invading creatures progress according to predefined movement rules.
- Magical stones and menhirs: aligned stones of the same colour become menhirs at the end of a round and award magical points.
- Druid council: druids who remain at the council provide influence and can earn points each round.
- Power cards and knowledge: develop abilities and improve access to special powers, including effects that can let a magical beam pass through a wall.
After five or six rounds, depending on the number of players, final scoring considers remaining magical stones, Power cards, and the layout of the menhirs. If the central door can be enclosed by connecting menhirs, players score for menhirs they placed; otherwise, captured creatures determine this part of the score. In Karnag, the player with the most magical points wins.
