About this board game
Fief 2 is a strategic board game for 3–6 players, with a playing time of about 120 minutes. Originally published as Fief by International Team, this substantially revised edition was released by Euro Games in 1989.
The game combines military aggression with political maneuvering. Players manage their finances while competing to build influence within the Church and the royal family, creating a contest where power depends on more than direct force.
Church influence is pursued by placing family members in bishoprics. At the same time, players work to influence the royal family, making family placement and political positioning important parts of the struggle.
- Manage your finances while pursuing power.
- Place family members in bishoprics to influence the Church.
- Compete for influence within the royal family.
- Use cards that inflict not-so-random events on other players.
These systems give Fief 2 its distinctive character. Military pressure and financial management operate alongside personal influence, while event cards can disrupt opponents in ways that are not entirely random.
With its mixture of aggression, negotiation, and calculated positioning, Fief 2 presents a dramatic struggle for influence. Players must balance their efforts across military, financial, religious, and royal concerns as they maneuver against one another over a full-length session.
