About this board game
Screaming Eagles is a 1987 jet fighter dogfight for 2–4 players that plays in about 20 minutes. Players control one or two fighters and attempt to shoot their opponents out of the sky in a fast-moving aerial battle.
Movement combines card play and dice. The card played determines the direction your fighter travels, while a die roll determines the movement distance. This unusual system gives the game its distinctive feel and makes positioning a central part of every dogfight.
The board adds another unusual twist. When a fighter moves off the front edge, it loops to the back of the board and continues moving. This creates the possibility of unexpected approaches and bizarre maneuvers as jets circle through the playing area.
Attacking requires careful positioning. If you successfully get your jet behind an enemy, you can open fire with your cannon or launch a missile. Damage is assessed with a die roll, and bringing down a plane usually requires multiple hits.
- Card play determines movement direction.
- Die rolls determine movement distance and assess damage.
- Jets loop from the front edge to the back of the board.
- Cannons and missiles can be used against an enemy positioned behind you.
A lucky—or unlucky—shot can change everything: a hit on the cockpit or fuel tank may bring down a plane immediately. With its simple rules, distinctive looping board, and quick 20-minute play time, Screaming Eagles delivers a compact dogfight that moves at jet speed.
