About this board game
Inside is a two-player board game released in 2007, with games lasting around 10 minutes. Together, players build a pyramid from light brown and dark brown wooden blocks while competing to become the winning architect.
The central challenge is to anticipate your opponent’s moves. Players place cubes in their opponent’s colour, creating an unusual tactical contest in which the colours appearing across the finished structure determine the result.
As construction progresses, each decision contributes to the final pyramid. The completed structure is assessed by its faces, and success depends on having enough of your colour in the right places rather than simply taking part in the build.
- Players: 2
- Play time: 10 minutes
- Core objective: Have more of your colour on at least two faces of the completed pyramid
- Main materials: Light brown and dark brown wooden blocks, plus cubes in the players’ colours
To win Inside, your colour must appear more than your opponent’s on at least two faces of the completed pyramid. This gives the short construction process a clear goal and makes anticipating the other player’s moves essential.
With its compact player count and brief playing time, Inside presents a focused architectural competition built around shared construction, colour placement, and final face-by-face comparison. Every move feeds into the appearance of the finished pyramid and the race to claim victory as its winning architect.
