About this board game
Battle Over Britain is a two-player operational-level game of the Battle of Britain, with approximately 300 minutes of play time. Released in 1983, it presents the conflict through daily turns in which German raids are planned and British responses unfold as those raids are detected.
Each turn represents one day of operations. The German player plans the day’s raids, while the British player reacts to the developing threat. Interception and air-to-air combat take place before bombing damage is assessed against the targets.
The game connects the results of earlier raids to the choices that follow. Target priority is determined according to the success of previous raids, creating an evolving sequence of attacks and responses. British forces can also be repositioned, with the option to transfer squadrons between quiet sectors and areas experiencing greater activity.
- Operational-level Battle of Britain gameplay
- Daily turns representing one day
- German raid planning and British detection responses
- Interception, air-to-air combat, and bombing damage
- Squadron transfers between sectors
- Basic and advanced game options
Victory in Battle Over Britain is determined by the damage inflicted on targets and the number of planes shot down. A variable game ending prevents either side from simply committing everything to a predictable final turn, helping maintain uncertainty through the closing stages.
With both a basic game and an advanced game, Battle Over Britain offers two ways to approach its operational contest. Its focus on raid planning, detection, interception, target effects, and shifting squadron deployments places the key decisions within the unfolding rhythm of the campaign.
