About this board game
AVíO is a trick-taking game for 2–6 players that plays in about 35 minutes. Players must choose carefully which cards to play—and, just as importantly, which card to keep—as they compete to be the first to reach 30 points.
Like other trick-taking games, AVíO uses cards with both a value and a suit. Its distinctive feature is that every card also contains an objective to fulfill, called an avio. This adds another decision to every round: the card left in your hand is not simply unused, but helps determine your scoring opportunity.
- Each player is dealt 9 cards at the start of a round.
- Players play 8 tricks.
- The card each player does not play determines that player’s objective for the round.
- Fulfilling the objective awards the points associated with it.
With one card held back while eight tricks are played, every choice can affect both your play and your scoring goal. Deciding which card to commit and which one to preserve is at the heart of the game.
Rounds continue as players pursue their objectives and add points to their totals. The first player to score 30 points wins. Whether you enjoy the structure of trick-taking games or are looking for a fresh twist on the format, AVíO centers its play around timing, card selection, and the consequences of what you keep.
