About this board game

The Supreme Commander: World War II in Europe, 1939–1945 is a 2–5 player strategy game covering the European Theater of Operations from September 1939 through the end of the war. With a listed play time of 300 minutes, it presents the conflict at a scale of 1.5 months per turn, 60 miles per hex, and corps and armies as the primary units.

The game brings together the major military, economic, diplomatic, and technological dimensions of World War II. Players can contend with the Murmansk convoy, Lend-Lease, diplomacy, the strategic U-Boat campaign, technological advancement, strategic bombing, naval invasions, military production, and partisans.

A detailed order of battle and researched economic and diplomatic systems support both historical campaigns and alternative possibilities. The open-ended design does not restrict players to the decisions made during the war, so the course of the conflict is shaped by player choices. Campaign games generally last a weekend and are designed to rarely play out the same way twice.

  • One full campaign game and two shorter scenarios
  • Two 22×34-inch maps and a diplomatic track
  • Six force pool card sets for France, the United Kingdom, the United States, the USSR, Italy, and Germany
  • Two countersheets, two player aid cards, and two ten-sided dice

Despite its broad scope, The Supreme Commander is designed to model the primary aspects of the European war in a straightforward, easy-to-learn system. Its combination of detailed forces and open-ended decisions creates a substantial strategic experience for players exploring both history and its possible alternatives.
