Zooloretto Duell

About this board game

Zooloretto Duell is a two-player zoo-building game that plays in about 20 minutes. Players compete to create the best zoo by drafting animal cards, managing special effects, and scoring points throughout the game.

Each turn, a player either adds a card to one of the available piles or takes a complete pile. The game includes six different animal species, and players score points for having the majority of a species when the required number of that species is present in the zoos.

Some animal cards carry symbols that trigger special actions when a player takes a second card of the same species with the same symbol:

• Heart: Take an available baby animal of that species.
• Card: Choose a card from the discard pile.
• Lightning bolt: Take a -1 point marker.

Collecting a symbol for a third time does not trigger its action. Instead, the card is discarded and the player takes a -1 point marker, adding another consideration to every draft decision.

Food stalls provide another way to gain an advantage. Matching two of the same stall symbol—pretzels, soft drinks, or ice cream—provides money that can be used either to steal an animal from the opponent or to remove all -1 point markers. The first player to have all different types of stalls also scores bonus points.

The end of Zooloretto Duell is triggered after the sixth in-game scoring or when the “last round” card is revealed. After endgame scoring, the player with the most points wins.
