About this board game

Battlegroup Clash: Baltics is a tactical land warfare game for 1–6 players, with sessions lasting about 180 minutes. Released in 2025, it recreates a hypothetical near-future Russian invasion of Estonia and the NATO land forces attempting to repulse it.

Each side commands a force no larger than a reinforced battalion, with individual units represented by platoons or sections. The game is designed to be easy to learn and quick to play, while offering enough depth to appeal to both professional and hobby gamers interested in modern battlefield combat.

Six scenarios and three play modes let players adjust the experience to their preferred level of realism and complexity. Basic mode is comparable to a light-complexity commercial wargame, while Standard and Advanced modes add more demanding decisions and planning.

  • Preparation and planning: In Standard and Advanced modes, players draft Orders at the start of the game. These Orders guide the actions of individual units, creating a simplified form of real-world military planning.
  • Drones and electronic warfare: UAS drones provide reconnaissance, while FPV drones can attack enemy units. Players may intercept electronic transmissions to improve targeting and use electronic warfare to jam opposing drones or disrupt GPS navigation.
  • Real-world mapping: Four maps are based on satellite imagery from key locations in Estonia. Grid lines replace hexes, requiring players to read the terrain, identify important features, and connect the landscape to their battle plans and objectives.

With familiar hex-and-counter wargame influences but no hexes on its realistic maps, Battlegroup Clash: Baltics combines accessible rules with immersive modern combat decisions.
