About this board game
Khe Sanh ’68 is a solitaire board game for one player, released in 2015, placing you in command of United States and South Vietnamese (ARVN) forces during the Vietnam War campaign to relieve the USMC firebase at Khe Sanh.
The historical campaign was a race against time. The US high command feared that North Vietnamese forces would attempt to overrun the base, while every resource committed to the fight at Khe Sanh reduced the forces available to respond to the Tet Offensive elsewhere.
Your mission is to extract the maximum possible communist losses while minimizing the allied effort required. The game asks you to manage the campaign from the allied side as the opposing force’s activities are directed by a dedicated card system.
- Solitaire play: You command the US and ARVN units alone.
- Two card decks: Use one deck to enhance your unit capabilities, while a second deck controls communist, or OPFOR, activities.
- Quasi-tactical combat: Opposing units fire at one another to resolve engagements.
The Cold War Blitz series rules provide the game’s solitaire framework. You make decisions for the allied forces while drawing OPFOR cards randomly, one at a time, to determine communist activity and keep the campaign moving.
With its focused historical setting, command decisions, card-driven opposition, and direct unit-to-unit combat, Khe Sanh ’68 presents the relief of Khe Sanh as a tense operational challenge. Every commitment matters as you balance the need to fight the immediate threat against the broader demands of the Vietnam War.
