About this board game
HATSUDEN is a two-player board game of renewable energy production and city power supply, with a play time of about 30 minutes. Players compete to build power plants, generate more electricity, and provide each city with an optimum supply.
On your turn, choose an open space and place a power plant card matching the renewable energy type shown at the top of its column. Each plant immediately provides the amount of electricity marked on its card. As the game develops, special technology cards can also play an important role.
Five renewable energy types shape the competition:
- Solar
- Geothermal
- Wind
- Hydro
- Biomass
Every plant in a row supplies electricity to the city at that row’s end. A city needs a total supply of 10, although 9 or 11 is permissible. If construction or an upgrade would raise the supply to 12 or more, one or more other plant cards in that row must be flipped into pylons so the total remains at 11 or less.
The game ends after one player completes all ten spaces and the other player takes the final turn. Any remaining spaces are filled with pylons if necessary. Players then compare their generation in each renewable energy type; the player with more takes that energy card for 1 point, while ties score nothing.
Players also score their total city supply: exactly 10 earns a city card worth 1 point, while a total of 8 or below loses 1 point. The higher total score wins. If HATSUDEN ends in a tie, city points decide the result, followed by victory for the second player if needed.
