Via Romana

About this board game

Via Romana is a board game for 2–4 players that takes about 45 minutes, set during the construction of the Roman road system in the provinces of Gaul. Players compete to connect important towns, build powerful forts, and protect Roman supremacy.

Players use cards to place milestones along the roads. When every section of a road between two towns is occupied by milestone stones, the player with the most milestones can take one of the town-markers, which provide victory points. The other players may draw cards from the open stock to obtain specific cards.

The contest extends beyond individual roads. Players also gather points through the value of their forts at the end of the game and by fulfilling certain missions. With easy rules but meaningful tactical challenges, Via Romana rewards careful planning as players compete for the largest share of the province’s road construction.
