About this board game
Bravery in the Sand is a two-player World War II wargame covering the major part of Operation Crusader in North Africa, with an approximate play time of 60 minutes. Set between November 20 and December 3, 1941, it places players in the roles of the Axis and Commonwealth generals competing to determine the battle’s victor.
One player commands the Commonwealth force, including British, South African, New Zealand, and Indian units. The other controls the Axis force, represented by German and Italian units. Formations are activated through chit draw, creating the game’s sequence of action across the battlefield.
Combat uses a roll-to-hit system. The rules also include battlefield recovery, replacements, fortifications, and Rommel, providing dedicated systems for several notable elements of the campaign.
- Turn scale: 2 days
- Map scale: 15 miles / 24 kilometers per hex
- Unit scale: Regiment and brigade

The Operations Special Issue #2 edition includes a 17 × 22-inch full-color mapsheet, a dual-sided countersheet with 176 5/8-inch counters, and an 8-page rules booklet.
