About this board game

Railroad Dice 2 is a 2–4 player railway game released in 2005, with sessions lasting about 90 minutes. As the sequel to Railroad Dice, it simplifies the original game’s concept while keeping its central challenge: building track from dice and transporting passengers.

On a turn, players may roll dice, build track, purchase engines, or transport passengers. The dice-rolling phase is the main restriction on a turn; other actions can be repeated as long as the required resources and money remain available. This gives players room to develop their rail networks and decide how to use what they have gathered.

The game includes two kinds of track dice. The original “simple” dice create single-track routes, while the new orange “complex” dice offer only multi-track options. These orange dice are distinct from the Railroad Dice: Crossing die distributed at Essen 2004.

  • Build railway track using dice
  • Purchase engines and transport passengers
  • Use simple single-track dice or orange complex multi-track dice
  • Play with an expansion company tile and shares for the original Railroad Dice

Railroad Dice 2 also includes an expansion company tile and shares that can be used with the original Railroad Dice. The English rules are noted as notoriously vague, so new players are recommended to use the available online tutorial when learning the game.

With its dice-based track construction and flexible action system, Railroad Dice 2 offers a streamlined follow-up to the original while retaining compatibility with additional company material from that game.
