About this board game

Crusader Kingdoms: The War for the Holy Land is a hand management game for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes. Set in the era of the Crusades, it places players in control of the main Christian or Muslim kingdoms of Outremer.

After the miraculous success of the 1st Crusade in 1097, three Christian kingdoms emerge: the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the Principality of Antioch, and the County of Edessa. In 1144, Edessa falls to Zengi, ruler of Mosul and Aleppo, provoking the 2nd Crusade.

Each turn, players receive a variable number of cards. These may be troops, events, or response cards, creating a changing hand of options as the struggle for the Holy Land develops.

Players act in alternate rounds, using their cards to try to expand their realms. The winner is the player who controls the most areas at the end of the game, giving every campaign a clear territorial objective.

  • Hand management gameplay centered on troops, events, and response cards
  • Christian and Muslim kingdoms of Outremer
  • Four different games set between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Crusades
  • Cooperative, competitive, and solitaire play

Crusader Kingdoms offers multiple ways to approach its historical setting. Choose cooperative play, compete directly against other players, or play solitaire while exploring the conflicts that shaped Outremer.
