About this board game
Magiczny Miecz is a 1993 fantasy adventure board game for 2–6 players, with sessions lasting around 240 minutes. Its world is darker than the heroic setting associated with Talisman, offering a distinctive journey from the center of the board toward its outer mountains.
The board’s layout turns the familiar structure inside out. Players begin in a valley at the middle of the board and work their way upward through the surrounding regions. Their ultimate challenge is not a Crown of Command, but the Fortress of the Beast, positioned on a bridge spanning the board.
Magiczny Miecz retains much of the basic arrangement of cards and related elements found in Talisman. However, its terminology changes two central attributes: Strength becomes Might, while Craft becomes Magic. These changes help give the game its own identity while preserving a familiar foundation.
- Players: 2–6
- Playing time: approximately 240 minutes
- Release year: 1993
- Final objective: battle through the Fortress of the Beast
The game was produced by Sfera after its license to publish the Polish version of Talisman was revoked following the release of the Sfera-original expansion Jaskinia, or The Cave, for Magia i Miecz. A later unlicensed version was made by Phantom, a Russian firm.
Sfera also produced a second edition of Magiczny Miecz. It changed the card style, recreated the board using photo art, and introduced new character art while keeping the original artwork elsewhere. Only the base game was produced in this edition.
