About this board game

Blackwood is a potion-making game for 2–4 players, played in about 60 minutes. In the renowned village of Blackwood, the Sorcery Council is ready to admit a new member, and only the region’s most reputable Witch will earn the promotion.

To impress the council, you must do what a Witch does best: concoct potions. Explore the mysterious forest beside the village to find magical ingredients, while using your wooden magical puppets, called Marionnettes, to help with your work. Rival Witches are also searching the forest and will not hesitate to take ingredients you need.

A game of Blackwood is played across 3 expeditions, with each expedition lasting 5 rounds. Every round follows two steps:

• Forest exploration: Each player places a Marionette in the forest.
• Return to the village: Determine the next first player and resolve the column indicated by the Forest Tracker.

Along the way, you can take optional actions to develop your plans. Prepare a potion, exchange potions for spells with the local village magician, cast a spell, sell a potion, or ask Fagus Bok for a little money.

Careful timing and attention to the forest can help you pursue the potions favored by the council. Gather what you need, manage your opportunities, and prove your reputation before the final expedition ends. In Blackwood, the path to the Sorcery Council runs through the forest and the brewing table.
