About this board game
Nations in Arms: Valmy to Waterloo is a strategic Napoleonic-era war game for 2–7 players, with an epic play time of up to 3000 minutes. Covering 24 years from 1792 to 1815, it places the French Revolution and the rise of Napoleon at the center of a sweeping European conflict.
Players control the major and minor powers of the period, managing annual national production, diplomacy, and war. The game emphasizes lines of communication, command and control, skilled leaders, troop quality, and the effects of battle, sieges, and attrition on a nation.
Armies include line infantry, guards, militia, supply trains, light and reserve cavalry, fleets, and more. Leaders and corps give players the tools to shape campaigns, while the updated and streamlined system—based on the Le Grand Empire game system—supports a broad strategic treatment of the period.
Each game year unfolds across four interactive seasonal turns. A Chit Activation system recreates the chaos of war, while a 110-card deck of historical and tactical events adds uncertainty and replay value. Variable chit pulls and card play help make each session different.
- Ten scenarios: one one-turn tutorial, four epic campaigns, and five smaller scenarios.
- Large playing area: two map sections create a 56-by-39-inch game space.
- Detailed components: four countersheets, player-aid cards, two dice, and a scenario booklet.
With Nations in Arms, players can choose to fan the flames of revolution across Europe or defend the Old Order. Its combination of national management, diplomacy, military command, and historical events offers a substantial campaign experience for fans of grand Napoleonic strategy.
