About this board game

The Fall of France: The Campaign of France, 1940 is a two-player wargame with a playing time of 720 minutes, recreating the German Blitzkrieg in France and the Low Countries during the spring of 1940.

Using two maps covering France, the Low Countries, southern England, Switzerland, northern Italy, and western Germany, the game represents the campaign at 16 miles per hex. One player controls the German forces committed to the invasion, while the other commands the air and ground forces defending the west.

The rules use the basic Europa game mechanics as a framework, with specialized systems for the historical situation. Movement, combat, air power, supply, fortifications, gliders, naval evacuation, and the Maginot Line all receive dedicated treatment. Naval units are not used in the game and are included for Europa purposes.

  • Air units represent groups of about 40 aircraft.
  • Ground units are scaled at divisions, brigades, regiments, and battalions.
  • The maps cover the principal regions of the campaign, from France and the Low Countries to parts of Britain, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland.
  • Charts and supplements provide national orders of battle, mobilization and reinforcement information, unit breakdowns, and combat references.

The complete game includes two 21-by-27-inch maps, 2,040 counters, a complete rules set, a chart set, one Europa VIII Supplement, and one die. The Fall of France offers a large-scale examination of the 1940 campaign through detailed forces, geographic coverage, and period-specific mechanics.
