About this board game
Ingenious Challenges is a 2010 collection of three mental-dexterity games for 2–4 players, with play time of about 45 minutes. Each challenge captures the spirit of Ingenious, asking players to score as highly as possible in every color or symbol while avoiding an unbalanced score.
Every game uses four individual scoreboards with colored pegs and tracks. Barriers on the scoring tracks make progress more demanding: players must raise all colors to certain levels before they can move beyond them, encouraging steady advancement rather than focusing on a single strength.
- Card Challenge: Play cards from a hand of six and score points according to the matching symbols displayed in front of all players. The first player to reach seven or more points in every color wins.
- Dice Challenge: Roll the dice up to three times, then score each symbol based on the matching symbols shown on other players’ dice. The first player to move every color to seven points wins.
- Tile Challenge: Reveal tiles from a shared pool and decide whether to collect matching tiles or risk revealing more. Collecting seven tiles of each color first wins, while a special rule helps players pursue a missing final color.
The three challenges use their components separately: cards, dice, and single-symbol tiles. In the Tile Challenge, a reveal that does not match the pool ends the turn and adds the revealed tiles to the pool, while a match offers a choice between collecting or continuing.
With its shared focus on color balance, Ingenious Challenges rewards careful timing and flexible decisions. Whether you prefer card play, dice rolls, or push-your-luck tile reveals, the collection presents three distinct ways to pursue an ingeniously balanced score.
