About this board game
Igel Ärgern + Tante Tarantel is a combined board game for 2–6 players, released in 2009, with a playing time of 45 minutes. The box brings together the long-running classic Igel Ärgern and the previously sold-out Tante Tarantel.
In Igel Ärgern, players place their wooden hedgehog disks in one of six rows. On a turn, roll the die, optionally move any of your hedgehogs one row to the left or right, then move a hedgehog in the rolled row forward one space. The hedgehog does not have to belong to you, so every roll can affect the race.
Black spaces create a further obstacle: hedgehogs caught on them cannot continue moving until they are in last place. The first player to get three of their four hedgehogs to the end of the board wins. The set also includes dozens of variant rules collected over the years, offering different ways to keep this classic fresh.
- Igel Ärgern: shift hedgehogs between six rows and advance the row selected by the die.
- Tante Tarantel: move insects toward the exit while a tarantula circles a spiral web.
- Shared box: play either classic with its many variant rules.
In Tante Tarantel, Aunt Tarantula moves around her web, gobbling up insects trying to escape. Players roll to move her, then take turns moving one of their bugs toward the exit. At first she is in a good mood, sending caught bugs back to her larder; once someone escapes, she becomes deadly and kills anything she catches.
A scoring track makes the chase increasingly tense. Each caught or escaping bug advances a marker and adds a number to the die roll, making Aunt Tarantula move faster. Players may share some spaces, but they also bump one another back and forth—and can push rival bugs into the tarantula’s path.
