About this board game

Medieval Realms is an economic euro game for 2 to 5 players, with a playing time of approximately 90 minutes. Each player takes the role of a medieval king, developing a personal realm over seven rounds.

Every round is divided into two distinct phases. First, all players secretly place their leaders on different locations of their player boards. Mayors, generals, and admirals help generate the resources needed to shape each kingdom, including gold, production, materials, science, culture, religion, and battle points.

In the second phase, players use those resources to take cards from the available row. These cards offer ten different categories of development and opportunity:

  • Leaders
  • Cities
  • Markets
  • Islands
  • Territories
  • Wars
  • Castles
  • Science
  • Religion
  • Culture

The game combines three card mechanisms: bidding, cards held in hand, and majority. Together, these systems determine how players compete for cards and turn their available resources into progress during the seven-round game.

Each decision contributes to the development of your realm, from secretly assigning leaders to managing the resources required to claim cards. The changing mix of card categories and mechanisms creates a focused economic contest for medieval expansion.

At the end of the seventh round, players compare their victory points. In Medieval Realms, the player with the most victory points wins the game.
