About this board game
The Mysterious Forest is a cooperative memory game for 2–4 players that takes about 25 minutes to play. Inspired by Daniel Lieske’s graphic novel The Wormworld Saga, it follows young Jonas as he enters a fantasy world through a magical painting.
To win, players must work together to guide Jonas across the forest and face the frightening Queen of the Draconias. The game unfolds in three distinct phases, combining observation, dice rolling, teamwork, and memory.
- Scouting: Study each of the eight forest cards in play and try to memorize all the equipment needed to cross them.
- Backpack preparation: Roll the dice and try to collect the right pieces of equipment for Jonas’s journey.
- Expedition: Reveal the forest cards one at a time and discard the equipment required by each card.
The scouting phase gives everyone a chance to examine the route, but remembering every requirement is only part of the challenge. Once the expedition begins, the team must rely on its shared memory and the equipment gathered in Jonas’s backpack.
Players need to reach the final card and select the correct equipment before revealing it. If they succeed, the group wins; the journey through the Mysterious Forest comes to an end with Jonas ready to face what lies ahead.
With its fantasy setting, cooperative play, and memorable three-phase structure, The Mysterious Forest turns a simple trek into a shared test of recall and preparation.
