About this board game

Train of Thought is a party word game for 2–7 players that plays in about 20 minutes. Players race to identify particular words from tightly limited clues, creating a lively challenge that rewards flexible thinking.

On each turn, the clue-giver tries to lead opponents to the word on a card using only three words. However, one of those words must come from a prior answer, linking each new clue to the conversation and making every turn part of an evolving chain.

After a clue is given, each player may make one guess. If nobody is correct, the clue-giver creates another clue using one of the guesses and up to two other words. This keeps the action moving while encouraging players to approach the target word from unexpected directions.

  • Use three-word clues to guide opponents toward a target word.
  • Include a word from a prior answer in every clue.
  • Give each player one guess for every clue.
  • Score points when the target word is correctly guessed.

When a player guesses correctly, both that player and the clue-giver receive one point. The clue-giver then draws a new card and continues making clues, aiming to collect as many points as possible within two minutes.

Released in 2011, Train of Thought offers a distinctive twist on the party word game format. Its connected clues and quick decisions make it an excellent choice for groups looking for a game that makes them think differently.
