About this board game

Circular Reasoning: The Well of Power is an abstract strategy game for 2–4 players, with games lasting around 30 minutes.

The board features a central goal surrounded by three concentric tracks, each containing 16 spaces. Every track has a gate leading to the next level, but these gates do not stay fixed: they rotate around the board according to the number of tokens on each level.

Each player controls three distinct tokens: a square, a triangle, and a circle. Their different movement values give them individual capabilities as they race inward:

  • The square moves four spaces.
  • The triangle moves three spaces.
  • The circle moves two spaces.

Reaching the center is not only a matter of moving quickly. Tokens can also be used to block opponents from using the gates that advance them to the next level. As the gates shift and access changes, players must anticipate opposing moves and find ways to work around their rivals.

This creates a tactical contest where positioning, timing, and prediction are closely connected. A move that advances one token may also affect the movement possibilities of others, while a well-placed piece can interfere with an opponent’s route toward the goal.

Originally developed by Tomer Braff and Edward Stevenson under the name Giant Shoulder Productions, Circular Reasoning was featured at IndieCade 2014 before being picked up by Ad Magic and published under Breaking Games. Released in 2015, it offers a compact race to the center built around rotating pathways and direct positional interference.
