The French player commands the remnants of the Grande Armée and must build bridges and move across the river under pressure from the Russian player. The game centers on the crossing between Borissov and Velesovo, at Stoudenka, where several Russian armies oppose the retreating French forces.
French leaders include Napoléon, Ney, Oudinot, and Victor. The Russian forces are led by Tchitchagov, Wittgenstein, Ermolov, Lambert, and Phalen, placing major commanders from both sides at the heart of the battle.
Special rules give particular importance to bridge building and trainards, or stragglers. These mechanics reflect the challenges of organizing the French crossing while Russian forces apply sustained pressure.
