Broad Lines

About this board game

Broad Lines is a cooperative party game for 3–8 players that takes about 15 minutes to play. Players sketch a selected word one line at a time, hoping their combined drawing will match the way others see it.

To create a clue, use the marker on a transparent card to draw either two straight lines or one curve. Once the drawing is complete, place the card on the easel over the cards already there. Each new contribution adds another broad hint to the developing image.

The central challenge is communicating an idea with only a very small number of marks. Rather than drawing a detailed illustration, players must rely on simple shapes and on how those shapes work together with the cards underneath.

After the cards are layered, the group sees whether the developing sketch points toward the selected word. The aim is to make the idea recognizable to a partner, even though every player contributes only a limited number of lines.
