About this board game

Muskets & Tomahawks: Skirmishes in North America during the 18th century is a card-driven tabletop miniatures wargame for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes.

Set during the late 18th century, it represents the Petite Guerre—the small wars fought in North America between the British, French, Americans, and Native Americans. Players command skirmishing forces in engagements shaped by both troop capabilities and changing battlefield opportunities.

Troops are divided into seven types, with each type represented by a number of cards. These cards grant actions according to the troop type, creating the core of the game’s activation system. Units also have four characteristics: Movement, Aggressiveness, Defence, and Marksmanship. They may also possess Traits that further distinguish them.

  • Card-driven activation and actions
  • Seven troop types with their own cards and action values
  • Unit characteristics covering movement, aggression, defence, and marksmanship
  • Officers represented and activated separately from their units

Officers have an important role of their own, represented separately from the units they command. The rules include a points system for organizing forces, a scenario generator that determines the game’s objective, and a side plot generator for officers.

These officer side plots can modify the result of the game, adding another layer to the scenario beyond the central objective. With its combination of miniatures, cards, troop distinctions, and generated narrative elements, Muskets & Tomahawks offers a focused way to explore skirmishes in this North American setting.
