About this board game
Fluxx is a card game for 2–6 players with a 30-minute play time in which the cards determine the current rules of the game. First released in 1997, it turns the usual expectations of a card game into an evolving set of instructions.
At the start of the game, each player holds three cards. On a turn, a player draws one card and then plays one card, using those cards to introduce new rules and alter how the game works.
As play develops, the rules can change in several important ways. Cards may affect:
- How many cards players draw
- How many cards players play
- How many cards players may keep in hand
- How many cards players may keep on the table
- How to win the game
Because the rules are continually reshaped by the cards, the structure of a turn and the route to victory can change during the game. A rule introduced earlier may be joined by new instructions that alter what players draw, play, hold, or keep in front of them.
This shifting design is the central feature of Fluxx, making the cards both the way players act and the source of the current rules. There are many editions, themed siblings, and promo cards available, offering different versions of the same rule-changing concept.
