About this board game

Senjutsu: Dynamic Samurai Combat is a two-player samurai warfare game with an approximate 30-minute play time, first released in 2003. Players recreate feudal Japanese conflict in a clan-versus-clan battle featuring customizable warriors.

The setting is Japan in 1508 AD, during the beginning of the era of civil war. After Hosokawa Matsumoto, the Kanrei or vice-Shogun, is assassinated, his adopted sons Takakuni and Sumimoto fight for their father’s title and control of the region. Each brother holds a scroll declaring him the heir, and the battle will decide who becomes the next Kanrei.

In Senjutsu, each samurai begins combat with three weapons. As the game progresses, warriors can acquire additional weapons or lose weapons, creating changing possibilities on the battlefield. Players choose how to arm their samurai and can shape their forces around different combinations of equipment.

  • Two-player clan-versus-clan samurai warfare
  • Customizable warriors with varied weapon combinations
  • Weapons, armory, and tactics cards that modify and diversify abilities
  • Changing equipment as samurai gain or lose weapons during the game

The available weapons, armory, and tactics cards support strategic decisions and replayability. With several possible weapon combinations, each battle can present a different scenario as players prepare their samurai for combat.

Choose your equipment, command your clan, and fight for the scroll that determines the next Kanrei.
