About this board game

Invasion Sicily is a two-player board game covering Operation Husky, the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943, with an approximate playing time of 360 minutes. It is a cousin of Vance von Borries’s East Front System, adapting that foundation to the campaign in Sicily.

The game’s major distinction is the addition of an efficiency rating to every unit. These ratings affect combat in several ways, making battles less predictable and reducing the extent to which outcomes depend on simply counting factors. The system is similar to the action ratings used in OCS.

Players can explore multiple Allied invasion plans rather than being restricted to a single historical approach. The timing and units assigned to the invasions are almost entirely flexible, allowing the campaign to develop around different operational choices.

  • Historical Husky: Follow the familiar invasion plan.
  • Eastern Sicily: Choose an invasion focused on the island’s eastern side.
  • Western Sicily: Shift the invasion toward the west.
  • Calabria: Attempt the most aggressive option, landing in the toe of Italy itself.

This combination of varied invasion options and efficiency-driven combat gives Invasion Sicily a campaign structure in which the initial plan, timing, and assigned forces all matter. Its flexible setup and less predictable combat model distinguish it within the East Front System family while keeping the focus on Operation Husky.
