About this board game

Tyrus is a two-player political strategy game played in about 30 minutes, where rival parties compete to control a city and claim its high council.

Elections take place in the city’s citadels, markets, and temples. Across these areas, the parties must carefully divide their soldiers, merchants, and priests to secure the majority of votes and determine which of the nine representatives will sit on the high council.

Every election is a tense contest of power and influence. Each faction can apply pressure to the other and may have the opportunity to cancel votes, making it difficult to know where your opponent is truly committed. Since both parties begin with equal forces, bluffing and misdirection become essential tools for gaining the advantage.

  • Designed exclusively for 2 players
  • Typical play time of around 30 minutes
  • Compete across citadels, markets, and temples
  • Manage soldiers, merchants, and priests
  • Use pressure, vote cancellation, bluff, and misdirection

Careful conservation is crucial throughout the game. You never know when a force will be needed in a later election, so committing too much too soon can leave your party vulnerable. The best plan balances immediate influence with the strength required for the contests still to come.

Released in 2004, Tyrus offers a focused struggle in which every placement and political maneuver can shape the final result. It is also available for turn-based online play through Boîte à jeux and Yucata.
