About this board game

The Seven Days Battles 1862 is a hex-and-counter Civil War wargame for 1–2 players, with games lasting up to 360 minutes. As Volume III in the Civil War Brigade Battle Series, it lets players refight the 1862 Seven Days Battles fought outside Richmond, Virginia.

One player commands the Confederate side while the other commands the Union side. Victory comes through the destruction of the enemy army and the capture of key terrain objectives, placing battlefield decisions at the center of every scenario.

The game includes eight scenarios covering four battles: Beaver Dam Creek, Gaines Mill, Glendale, and Malvern Hill. Six scenarios focus on a single day and can be played in approximately 2–4 hours, while two scenarios link adjacent battles and are designed for longer 6–8 hour sessions.

  • Beaver Dam Creek, including alternative scenarios for Jackson’s late or timely arrival
  • Gaines Mill and the combined Beaver Dam Creek to Gaines Mill scenario
  • Glendale and the historical Malvern Hill scenario
  • The combined Glendale to Malvern Hill scenario

Special rules portray Stonewall Jackson’s lethargy during the campaign, adding a distinctive historical consideration to the battles. The linked scenarios allow players to cover two days of fighting across two maps, while the single-day scenarios provide more compact engagements.

With its old-school presentation and broad scenario selection, The Seven Days Battles offers a focused way to explore the Union and Confederate struggle around Richmond through four notable engagements of the 1862 campaign.
