About this board game
Calçada is a tile-drafting board game for 2–4 players, played in about 50 minutes. Released in 2024, it brings the lively atmosphere of Portuguese sidewalks to the tabletop.
The first bars open as people fill the alleys. Children scamper around, couples stroll together, and older passers-by relax on shaded park benches. This busy setting provides the backdrop as players shape their own pavement scenes with carefully selected tiles.
On each turn, players draft pavement tiles from a general display and place them on their player board. Tile selection uses a mancala-inspired mechanism, making the way tiles are taken an important part of the game’s central flow.
- Draft pavement tiles from the shared display.
- Use the mancala-inspired selection mechanism to choose your tiles.
- Complete areas to score their current value.
- Earn end-game points for connected objects or groups.
Whenever someone completes a certain area, they score points based on that area’s value. After scoring, the value decreases, changing the rewards available as the game continues and creating a shifting scoring landscape for everyone at the table.
Once the game ends, players receive extra points for connected objects or groups. The player with the most points wins. With its combination of shared tile drafting, area completion, changing values, and final connectivity bonuses, Calçada offers a focused contest set amid the everyday movement of a Portuguese sidewalk.
