About this board game

Midway Solitaire is a one-player wargame covering the Pacific Theater of Operations campaign from April through June 1942. You command United States Navy and Allied forces while the game system controls the Imperial Japanese Navy.

The period represented in the game saw Japan launch two major offensives, leading to the battles of the Coral Sea and Midway. Both campaigns were decided by aircraft carrier actions, and the USN commander must overcome multiple Japanese naval offensives while facing an enemy with superior numbers.

Victory carries enormous consequences: the struggle represented in Midway Solitaire determines the entire course of the war in the Pacific Theater. The game focuses on the challenge of directing Allied forces against a powerful and numerically stronger opponent across this pivotal campaign.

The original edition appeared in World at War #54, published in June-July 2017, with a 22 × 34-inch map and 176 die-cut counters. The expanded Midway Solitaire Deluxe edition was released in January 2022.

The Deluxe version includes one mounted map board, more than one full counter sheet plus a partial sheet of 9/16-inch counters, full-color player aid cards, and a 32-page full-color rules booklet. It also updates the map and counters and adds variant counters and variant rules, offering additional ways to explore this decisive Pacific campaign.
