About this board game

Portal of Morth is a competitive tower-defense-inspired board game for 1–4 players, with an approximately 180-minute play time. Across five rounds, players command teams of heroes against increasingly powerful enemies, striving to protect their boards and finish with the fewest damage points.

Each round features one wave per player, and every wave follows four distinct phases. The starting player begins Lord Morth’s phase by rolling enemy dice into the portal board, using the turn track to determine how many dice to roll and a 12-sided die to determine the portal’s exact position. Players also receive cards that can trump their opponents’ strategies.

  1. Portal phase: Players may spend gold to turn the portal and alter the initial enemy distribution. In turn order, each player may move the portal in any direction or pass, after which the enemy dice are placed in their corresponding paths.
  2. Heroes’ phase: Players move and attack with their characters, attempting to eliminate the threats on their boards.
  3. Assault phase: Enemies advance toward the exits. A three-sided die determines the number added to each enemy’s initial movement value, and any enemy that escapes causes its player to take damage.

The portal’s shifting distribution gives players opportunities to influence where danger appears, while the heroes’ phase puts the focus on dealing with the threats already in play. After all five rounds are complete, the player with the fewest damage points wins. In Portal of Morth, survival depends on managing enemy waves before their assault reaches the edge of the board.
