About this board game
Magic Hill is a card-driven race for 2–5 players that takes about 30 minutes, in which wizards guide their goblins up a five-tier, three-dimensional magic mountain.
Each wizard controls five goblins, and the goal is to be the first player to get one of them to the top. Movement is determined through numbered card play, giving every turn a clear sequence of choices.
On a turn, a player may play two or three numbered cards. The first card identifies which goblin moves, while the second and third cards determine how far that goblin travels. Goblins ascend the mountain by landing on top of another goblin, creating the distinctive climbing system at the heart of the game.
- For 2–5 players
- Approximately 30 minutes of play
- Five goblins controlled by each wizard
- Numbered cards determine goblin selection and movement distance
- A five-tier, three-dimensional board
The mountain is also filled with special event tiles. These tiles can help or hinder players, adding changing effects as goblins make their way upward. Players can also encounter magic stones, which increase the number of cards in a player’s hand.
With its unusual three-dimensional board, goblin stacking movement, event tiles, and hand-enhancing magic stones, Magic Hill combines a straightforward race with a distinctive card-play system. Originally released in 2001, it challenges wizards to find a path from the base of the mountain to its summit before their rivals do.
