About this board game

Irish Freedom is a solitaire wargame for one player, designed for approximately 60 minutes, that simulates the Irish War of Independence from 1919 to 1921 and the Irish Civil War from 1922 to 1923.

In the first part of the game, you command the Irish rebel forces as they fight for independence against the British. If you achieve success, the struggle continues into the Civil War, where you lead the Free State forces against the Republican enemy.

Irish Freedom can also be played as a stand-alone game covering either conflict. This gives you the option to experience the complete two-war sequence or focus on one specific period.

Gameplay centers on moving your forces, represented by counters, across a map of Ireland. You can also raise fresh forces to support your armed operations, while a simulated enemy move works to prevent you from achieving victory.

  • Solo play for one player
  • A campaign covering two connected wars
  • Counter-based forces moved across a map of Ireland
  • The ability to raise fresh forces for armed operations
  • Stand-alone play for either war

Victory is determined by a combination of how quickly you win the War of Independence and how quickly and completely you win the Civil War. The result is a focused solo wargame about managing forces and pursuing victory across Ireland’s successive conflicts.
