About this board game

Shiloh: April Glory is a two-player American Civil War game about the Battle of Shiloh, played in approximately 180 minutes. It covers the surprise Confederate attack of April 1862, the Union counter-attack on the following day, and the struggle for control of the battle’s outcome.

The game can be played as separate scenarios for Day 1 and Day 2, or as one larger game covering both days. This structure lets players experience the initial Confederate offensive and the reinforced Union army’s response in a focused or combined session.

Shiloh: April Glory uses a map divided into large areas, with combat resolved within those areas. Its turn structure follows a quick Move-Move-Battle sequence, creating a brisk rhythm as players reposition forces and then resolve engagements.

There are no cards. Instead, players activate leaders to command brigades belonging to the same division or corps, placing emphasis on coordinating formations and using command effectively across the battlefield.

  • Players: 2
  • Play time: approximately 180 minutes
  • Scenarios: Day 1, Day 2, or both days together
  • Core system: area movement and combat with Move-Move-Battle turns

Each player gets to play one day on offense and one day on defense, giving both sides a chance to experience contrasting strategic challenges. The result is a smooth, fast-playing treatment of a battle that ended in Union victory, the death of Confederate commander Albert Sydney Johnston, and the eventual collapse of Confederate hopes in the West.
