About this board game

3-2-1 Countdown is a retro space travel-themed card game for 2–8 players, with games lasting about 30 minutes. Race to blast off by building the lowest total value in your hand while deciding when to make the crucial call: “countdown.”

On your turn, shed cards onto one of two discard piles by playing either single cards or sets. You then end your turn by drawing a single card, creating a constant balance between reducing your hand and taking on another card.

The round ends when a player declares “countdown”. Every player’s hand total matters, so the timing of that declaration is a strategic gamble. Call it too soon, and another player may still have a lower hand value; wait too long, and you may give opponents the chance to improve their position.

  • Play with 2–8 players.
  • Enjoy a typical play time of around 30 minutes.
  • Shed cards as singles or sets onto two discard piles.
  • Draw one card at the end of each turn.
  • Compete for the lowest total hand value when “countdown” is declared.

If the player who declares “countdown” has the lowest hand, they earn points and bonuses. If another player has a lower hand, the declarer earns no points, while other players score instead. This push-your-luck decision gives every round a tense finish.

With its space-race theme and simple central choice, 3-2-1 Countdown focuses on reading the moment: keep shedding cards to improve your hand, or risk ending the round before someone else gets there first.
