About this board game
Syracuse: 415-413 avant J.-C. is a two-player game of the Peloponnesian War, playable in about 120 minutes, with Athens and its allies facing Syracuse and its allies.
Covering the land and naval battles and the siege of Syracuse, the game divides the conflict into turns of three months. Players can lead land battles, launch naval operations, construct forts and walls, and undertake siege activities as the campaign develops.
The game includes both a historical scenario and a “What if?” scenario in which Alcibiades is the main Athenian leader. These scenarios present two ways to approach the struggle around Syracuse while keeping the focus on the military and siege operations of the period.
- Two-player conflict: Athens and allies versus Syracuse and allies
- Map measuring 29.7 × 41 cm, with 27 land zones and 12 sea zones
- 108 die-cut counters, including 68 leaders and combat units, 22 stratagem counters, and 18 markers
- 16-page rules booklet
The rules are based on those for Sphacteria, originally published in issue #95 of Vae Victis. They add siege activities, fortification construction, and several additional developments for this treatment of the campaign.
With its combination of armies, fleets, fortifications, and siege warfare, Syracuse: 415-413 avant J.-C. focuses on the varied operations required to contest the city and its surrounding land and sea zones.
